Frédéric Chopin - Prelude No. 4 In E - Minor, "Suffocation"
I play Frédéric's fourth piano preludium on my Charles R. Walter 43 3/8 cherry console piano. Though Chopin composed this set of preludes after JS Bach's own prelude compilations at the young age of 29, his mastery of emotion is clear. Though simple, the prelude contains a number of small musical performance directions that make it more challenging than it may seem. I give a slower, more emotive performance evocative of the mood many of Chopin's later works are given. I also add quite a bit more rubato into the phrasing than usually is given. I like to call this performance my "funeral début ," since, though it is not as Classically accurate, it follows along the aural lines suited for a tragedy or loss. I sincerely hope you enjoy my rendition. E-mail me with any questions about my performance at: sudenmorsian@aim.com
