I know that my Redeemer liveth.Isobel BAILLIE.1946.MESSIAH.Handel.
The famous Columbia recording. Dame Isobel was for many years the quintessential 'English' oratario soprano. A bell like quality to her voice. At the time, she was supreme in the oratorio repertoire. Widely praised for the purity and clarity of her tone. 'I Know' almost became her personal signature tune. This recording is with The Huddersfield Choral Society and the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent. The first of his four Messiah recordings. Recording re-mastered very successfully by Dutton Laboratories,England, and issued on their label.Their on-line site is remarkable. In my opinion this Messiah performance, recorded, and first issued on shellac is sparkling, and vivid throughout, and better than the 1959 Sargent, already on my site. Recording venue for this Messiah is Huddersfield Town Hall,1946. Isobel Baillie,DBE,soprano,1895-1984. Born,Hawick,Scotland.UK. Her autobiography:-Never Sing Louder Than Lovely.
